When to Call Your Lactation Consultant (LC)

Knowing when to call for help can really make your breastfeeding experience go a lot more smoothly. Here are some examples of reasons to call the lactation consultant:

  • Pain while breastfeeding
  • If you have multiples
  • If your baby is premature
  • If you have had a breast reduction
  • If you don't hear your baby swallowing during feedings
  • If your baby has fewer than six wet diapers a day
  • Your baby is ill or has jaundice
  • Your baby is having weight gain difficulties
  • If your baby is very sleepy
  • If you have engorgement
  • If you are concerned about your milk supply
  • If you have nipple soreness or pain
  • If you or your baby have thrush
  • If you think you have a plugged duct
  • If you have mastitis
  • If you are taking medications or have questions about taking medications while nursing
  • If you have questions about choosing a pump or using a breast pump
  • If you have any questions about breastfeeding
